OpenTech customer Brian Hurd sees immediate results with new INSOMNIAC Kiosk
PHOENIX, Arizona – September 21, 2010 – OpenTech proudly announces another kiosk customer that is experiencing early success. A+ East Mesa Storage in Las Cruces, New Mexico is owned by Brian Hurd and his partners – Johnny Curry and John Curry, his brother-in-law and father-in-law, respectively. The family has worked together for many years, but most recently teamed up to build a storage facility that sits on three acres with nearly 150 units.
After just completing the facility in May 2010, they are pushing toward their occupancy goals that will help them continue with the next phase of their project – expanding the facility by another 150 units. “This kiosk concept makes perfect sense,” commented Hurd. “Our facility is essentially run unmanned and is saving us money to help us add more units and that is a beautiful thing.”
Hurd’s INSOMNIAC 900 has rented 34 units (76 percent of all rentals) since opening. Hurd was initially concerned that customers would be intimidated by the technology but being able to review the digital recording of each transaction has been very enlightening and valuable. “It’s all been positive,” said Hurd. “Having a kiosk is so convenient for my customers and for me.”
Las Cruces, New Mexico has a population of about 95,000 people, and Hurd’s facility is about eight miles from the city center positioned in an up and coming area. “We have not been marketing as aggressively as we would like, just because we’ve been so busy with construction,” admits Hurd. “But we are starting to have good luck with newspaper ads, our web site and running promotions on our banner outside the building.”
A+ East Mesa Self Storage is the only facility around the area that has a kiosk and Hurd believes it gives him a competitive advantage. “My customers can rent units and pay bills any time of day or night.” Hurd was able to illustrate this point by discussing a video transaction that took place with one of his more challenging customers. The customer went to the kiosk and pushed the call center button, and the INSOMNIAC Live! call center agent took over the transaction for the customer. Hurd later called the customer to learn more about his experience and to his delight the customer was shocked at the ease of the process and commented “All I had to do was sign my name and they took care of the rest.”
