The 6th edition issue continues to report ongoing statistics and industry trends related to the use of self-service automation and technology throughout self-storage.
Emphasizing the growth of automation at self-storage facilities, INSOMNIAC™ kiosks have exceeded $121 million in total rental fees collected since the report was established. Moreover, customers in 2013 used kiosks to rent 34,335 storage units, make 248,838 payments, and purchase 12,669 locks. This equates to $27,408,773 in self-service move-in, payment and merchandise transactions through kiosks in 2013. The tables below illustrate kiosk transactions of new move-ins and payments made throughout 2013.
In an ongoing effort to be transparent, the white paper was outsourced and co-authored by a number of industry professionals to reveal how self-storage owners can evaluate efficiencies and returns on investing in technology and automation.
