Shamrock Self Storage Launches Remotely Managed Facility Enabled by OpenTech Alliance

Shamrock Self-Storage, a new player in Vermont’s self storage market has made a strong debut, reaching 38% occupancy within the first four months of opening a modern, remotely managed facility in Williston. Backed by decades of local construction and development expertise, the venture brings a fresh approach to storage, combining convenience, technology, and community-focused service. 

Building a Remotely Managed Self Storage Operation

While self storage is new territory for the well-known construction company, Shamrock has already seen early success with the help of OpenTech’s Remote Manager service. The remote-first model is leaning into the future of self storage operations with self-service and cloud-based technology and off-site support to manage facility operations without a full-time on-site staff member. 

Partnering With OpenTech Alliance to Support Self Storage Management

To make this vision a reality, Shamrock Self-Storage partnered with OpenTech Alliance, a leading provider of self storage technology solutions. The facility currently uses three of OpenTech’s core products: INSOMNIAC® CIA, full-service self storage kiosks, and Remote Manager. Together, these tools form the foundation of a remotely managed self storage environment that delivers both convenience and consistency. 

INSOMNIAC CIA and Kiosks: Powering Remote Access and Customer Convenience

The CIA access control system has made an impression on Alyssa Buckley Couture, the company’s Director of Marketing overseeing operations management for Shamrock Self-Storage. With its user-friendly control center (IoE) that provides easy to read insights and information on tenant and property activity, Alyssa can quickly check on the facility remotely while managing her other responsibilities. The control center is also integrated with Shamrock’s facility management software (FMS), allowing the Remote Manager team to thoroughly support and manage the tenant experience from the initial sale to final move out. 

The full-service INSOMNIAC® kiosks also play a critical role in the onsite customer experience. These self-serve machines allow renters to handle essential tasks such as unit rentals, payments, and account management without staff assistance. For customers, this means access to services 24 hours a day. For Shamrock, it reduces the need for on-site staff and improves overall efficiency.

Remote Storage Management With OpenTech’s Remote Manager Team

However, it is OpenTech’s Remote Manager service that has proven to be the most impactful element of Shamrock’s self storage management strategy. The Remote Manager team acts as an extension of Shamrock‘s staff, handling day-to-day operations directly through the FMS and OpenTech’s access control center This includes managing rentals, accepting payments, collecting past due balances, responding to inquiries, coordinating maintenance, and more.  

While the idea of remote storage management came with initial concerns, those were quickly addressed by the performance and professionalism of the Remote Manager team. Backed by years of experience in self storage call center operations and remote customer service, the team has delivered strong early results. Their ability to act as the face of Shamrock to customers has been a key component of the facility’s successful launch. 

They really handle all the day-to-day and night-to-night tasks. Even communication with clients, which is great because that can be such a lift.

In addition to delivering round-the-clock rental capabilities via kiosks and a responsive call center, OpenTech’s Remote Manager team offered strategic insights that allowed Shamrock to plan for common tenant challenges like online payments and collections. While certain tasks still require on-site attention, the majority of daily operations are now remotely managed by OpenTech’s suite of automated self storage solutions.
