OpenTech’s Bilingual Kiosks & Online Solutions Collect $24 Million in 2012

PHOENIX, Arizona – February 25th, 2013–OpenTech Alliance, Inc. announced today that it has exceeded the $94 million mark in rental fees collected by its INSOMNIAC® line of self service rental solutions. In 2012 alone, over $24 million was realized by self storage operators throughout the U.S. and Canada.

“While we are not able to track how many of the transactions were processed in Spanish, we are hearing from our customers that the Spanish text, voice prompts, and Live! Megan Plus service are having a big impact for operators that do not employ managers who speak Spanish. With the growth of the Hispanic population we feel our kiosks offer our customers a unique opportunity to rent more units and that is what it is all about”, commented Robert Chiti, President and CEO of OpenTech Alliance.

In an ongoing effort to be transparent, OpenTech continues to release valuable data on the usage of self service business channels and consumer transaction trends related to the self storage marketplace. The annual report and analysis was originated in 2008 to provide INSOMNIAC kiosk owners with performance comparisons aligned with the aggregate results of all kiosks throughout the INSOMNIAC network. Since 2008, the report has drawn more widespread circulation throughout the industry; enabling all self storage owners the opportunity to evaluate the potential benefit of employing the new self service technology at their business.

The study shows firsthand how facilities are benefiting from an on-site, point-of-sale kiosk and online based rental solutions (PC & Mobile). During 2012, self storage consumers used INSOMNIAC self service automation to; complete over 30,000 new unit rentals, collect over 221,000 payments, and sell over 11,000 locks.

The tables below illustrate self service transactions of new rentals and payments made throughout 2012.

Also, INSOMNIAC kiosks rented an average of 4 units monthly (per facility) in 2012. A Success Guide of “Best Practices” has been developed to help operators get the most value from their kiosk. By leveraging these proven practices, the top 100 performing kiosks saw an increase of nearly 50% in new rentals processed monthly. In 2012, INSOMNIAC kiosks rented 884 units on holidays alone. INSOMNIAC Kiosks never take a day off; a huge convenience for customers needing to rent a unit or make payment on a holiday. In total, the kiosks collected $646,657 in rental fees during 11 major holidays proving self storage customers are active people that want to do business at their convenience.
