OpenTech Alliance, the PropTech leader in self storage, announced new mobile entry options for INSOMNIAC CIA that allow operators to eliminate physical keypads at select access points or across an entire property.

Access Control In The Palm Of Your Hands

Mobile Keypad is available now through the Storage Genie app, which is included as part of Lifetime Services at no additional cost. Text to Open, planned for release beginning in November, will allow tenants to enter through text messaging. Both options verify tenant credentials without requiring a physical keypad or access code.

Operators can use mobile entry at gates, doors, elevators and other access zones. Location controls confirm the tenant is at the property and present only the access points authorized for that user. Mobile access can complement existing keypads or support a mobile-only configuration for new facilities, expansions, retrofits and container storage sites. Requiring fewer physical keypads can reduce hardware, installation and recurring service costs, making access control more affordable for smaller operators.

Flexible Gate Entry With Mobile Access Control

We’re continuing to innovate the ways operators can manage access control. Mobile access provides an alternative to our proven keypad solutions, giving operators greater flexibility to choose the right access experience for their facilities while offering tenants a convenient, seamless way to enter.

INSOMNIAC CIA is the most widely adopted access control system among the self storage industry’s REITs and top operators. Its cloud-based architecture connects access permissions, activity and operational data through OpenTech’s IoE ecosystem.

OpenTech platform data also shows that tenants adapt to mobile entry when it is established as the standard. Mobile currently accounts for 85% of CIA access events in EMEA, compared with 15% across the platform overall. Much of the region’s mobile usage comes from its largest operator, which requires mobile entry and offers no keypad alternative.

Discover Mobile Access Control at FEDESSA in Germany

Mobile entry is one part of OpenTech’s broader work to reimagine access control and expand keyless solutions across the IoE ecosystem. The company recently signed a Letter of Intent to acquire SAM Systems B.V., developer of an NFC and Bluetooth smart lock designed for self storage. Subject to closing, the product would add another unit-level mobile access option for operators. Read the SAM Systems announcement.

OpenTech team members will be available at Stand 5 during the FEDESSA Conference & Trade Show in Wiesbaden, Germany, September 22–24, to discuss mobile and keyless access strategies with operators.
